SUVs have invaded the market. We see them in all possible brands, shapes, sizes and colors. We always classify them into premium models and generalist models, but only a few of them are halfway between both worlds. The Mazda CX-5 has always been there, offering a very balanced and interesting middle ground with a great price-product proportion.

The history of the CX-5 starts in 2012. It is then when Mazda presents to the world the first generation of the largest SUV that sells in the European market, and some parts of Africa too. It stands as the leader of the family, the most generous in size above models such as the Mazda CX-3, the Mazda CX-30 or the electric Mazda MX-30.

Especifications

The Mazda CX-5 is the manufacturer's largest model. Externally reaches 4.55 meters long, 1.84 meters wide and 1.67 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2.7 meters. Three of the five occupants are located in a very usable second row of seats with generous legroom, although the worst part is taken by the central traveler. In terms of cargo capacity, the Mazda CX-5 offers a trunk with 477 liters of minimum capacity. This capacity can be increased to 1.620 liters if the second row of seats is folded.

Mechanics and gearboxes

Mazda is a brand that understands the market and mechanics in a particular way. The Japanese have always opted for "right-sizing". Instead of reducing cylinder capacity, they have opted for blocks of optimum size to maintain performance and reduce fuel consumption. Today the Mazda CX-5 presents a range with two diesel and two gasoline versions.

The diesel range has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 150 or 184 hp. Depending on the selected mechanics, the CX-5 can be associated with a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission with the same number of gears.

In terms of equipment, the Japanese compact SUV leaves almost nothing behind, including new systems in the 2022 update. Head-Up Display, digital dashboard, full LED headlights, 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, multimedia system with 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless charger, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a wide range of driving aids and active safety elements.
